The Aggies had a very poor defense last year and had to replace three superstars on offense. Quarterback Johnny Manziel (Cleveland Browns), wide receiver Mike Evans (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and offensive tackle Jake Matthews (Atlanta Falcons) were all selected in the first round.
Most figured Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner, to be irreplaceable.
Sophomore quarterback Kenny Hill showed that he was more than capable. Hill completed 44-of-60 pass for 511 yards, breaking a school record held by Manziel, with three touchdowns and zero interceptions as the Aggies dominated the Gamecocks’ defense en route to a 52-28 victory.
According to SportsBook.com, Hill now has Heisman Trophy odds and the Aggies’ National Title odds have gone from 100/1 to 40/1.
In fact, the action Hill has already caused the odds to move from 20/1 to 18/1.
In the sports world, almost everything causes a gigantic overreaction so this should come as no surprise. Plus, Hill’s performance was obviously extremely impressive and he did it on the road against a team that won 11 games last season.
