On Saturday, Michael Sam learned that his quest to make the St. Louis Rams 53-man roster for the start of the 2014-15 NFL regular season hit a roadblock as he was released from the team.
Sam was attending the Missouri Tigers Week 1 game when the news broke, and he decided to take to social media to immediately comment on the news.
Being the classy individual that he has proven to be, Sam thanked the St. Louis community and the Rams organization for his brief stint with the team.
I want to thank the entire Rams organization and the city of St. Louis for giving me this tremendous opportunity and allowing me to (1/2)

The most worthwhile things in life rarely come easy, this is a lesson I've always known. The journey continues.

Sam will now go through the waiver wire where the 31 other teams around the league will have an opportunity to claim him.
If Sam clears through waivers without anyone making a claim, his next option would be to land on the St. Louis Rams practice squad.
