Michael Sam released by St. Louis Rams
By Josh Sanchez
Michael Sam came up just short of making history by becoming the first openly gay player to be on a NFL roster when the regular season kicked off.
On Saturday afternoon as the final roster cuts were made by all 32 teams around the league in anticipation of the 4 p.m. ET deadline to get to 53-players, the Rams announced that they have released Michael Sam.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to break the news.
After an up-and-down preseason that was highlighted by a sack of Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel and then a money dance, Sam just missed out on the final roster.
The good news, however, is that Sam could find a home on the Rams’ practice squad if he is not claimed by a team on the waiver wire.
We will just have to see whether or not the other 31 teams in the NFL will want to bring him on board after passing on him earlier this year in the 2014 NFL Draft.
