Maty Mauk begins his first season as the starting quarterback for the Missouri Tigers after filling in for James Franklin when he was injured last year.

Much of the offseason talk surrounding the program was how they could possibly defend their SEC east division title and return to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game with so many receivers gone from last year’s team.

Gone are L’Damian Washington, Marcus Lucas to graduation and Dorial Green-Beckham was dismissed in a highly-publicized decision in the spring after he was involved in yet another off-the-field incident.

But no one failed to mention who was returning with Mauk, especially Bud Sasser who is capable of putting up big numbers as Mauk’s No. 1 receiver.

Just take a look at this 29-yard touchdown he had against South Dakota State.

Mauk has fared well in leading Mizzou to the 35-18 score at the time of publishing with three touchdowns and and 173 yards passing on 12-21 passing. He also added 17 yards on five rushing attempts.

Sasser has only two catches for 37 yards, but look for him to be a focal point of the passing game throughout the season and serve as one of Mauk’s favorite targets.
