The New York Giants will look to rediscover some of the pass rush brilliance that propelled them to glory in previous seasons as they try to rebound in 2014.

As they try to make sense of which group of players will be dispatched to generate said pass rush, they made a decision to part with a veteran player on Saturday morning.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the Giants released 33-year-old defensive end Israel Idonije.

In the league since 2004, Idonije has done well to carve out a career for himself. The 6’7″, 290 pound lineman, originally from Nigeria, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Bears to start his career.

From 2007 to 2012 he played a meaningful role on those vaunted Chicago front-sevens, with a stretch from 2010 to 2012 when he was a starter and recorded 8.0, 5.0, and 7.5 sacks respectively. As things stand now, Idonije has 29 career sacks in 149 games played.

Father Time has caught up with Indonije; he appeared in 15 games on the Detroit Lions last season and recorded only 0.5 sacks as a member of a defensive line that underachieved as a unit. The Giants took a flier on the veteran this preseason, but it appears that they did not see enough to keep him around.
