The New York Jets spent a second round pick on wide receiver Stephen Hill in the 2012 NFL draft.

More from New York Jets

Looking to finally add more weapons on offense, the Jets were hoping that Hill could follow in the footsteps of the successful careers of fellow Georgia Tech alum like Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas.

To say that plan has not worked out would be an understatement, and on Saturday reports surfaced that the Jets are planning to waive Hill just two years later.

Per Mike Garafolo:

This chapter isn’t quite finished yet, however, as the Jets technically still have time to trade Hill before final rosters are set on Saturday afternoon:

For his career, Hill has 45 receptions for 594 yards and four touchdowns. There is still plenty of promise for Hill considering that he is only 23 years old, but his next fit will have to be more receiver-friendly than the Jets so that he can develop his talent.

Another team will give Hill a chance; it will just be a matter of whether or not that chance comes via a trade or as a free agent after he is released. Either way, Hill’s time with the Jets is done.
