The St. Louis Rams are making their final roster cuts on Saturday along with the rest of the teams in the NFL. No other team will make a decision under the spotlight quite like the Rams will, however.

More from Los Angeles Rams

With just four cuts left to go, the Rams have yet to make a decision on Missouri defensive end Michael Sam. The decision with him packs far more meaning than just what he will bring to the roster, as Sam is striving to become the first openly gay player in the NFL.

As best as they can, the Rams are trying to make this decision independent of factors off the field. If this call is truly restricted to performance on the field and what the players can potentially bring this season, it sounds more and more like Sam will fall just short of making the Rams’ 53-man roster.

The man who will beat him? Defensive lineman Ethan Westbrooks. Adam Caplan offers the latest:

For his part, Sam insists that he is at peace with the work that he has put in this preseason, regardless of the final decision. He can speak for himself there, because there will plenty of buzz either way when the roster decision is finally handed down by Jeff Fisher and his coaching staff on Saturday.
