Former second-round pick Stephen Hill was cut by the Jets Saturday after two highly frustrating seasons in New York. There’s no getting around the reality that Hill was a bust for the Jets, but if you believe Hill’s agent there were plenty of extenuating circumstances behind Hill’s failure.

More from New York Jets

Hill’s agent Alan Herman had strong words about the Jets and their operation when defending his client, who is now trying to catch on with another team (via USA Today):

"“I’m disappointed in Idzik and Rex with the way the whole thing went down there,” Hill’s agent, Alan Herman, told USA TODAY Sports. “Two years in that kind of situation is disheartening.“He didn’t have a chance that first year with that whole Tim Tebow-Mark Sanchez fiasco. … His second year, Geno Smith was learning how to play quarterback. So they never threw the ball deep because they wanted to simplify things for Geno.”"

Hill was drafted out of Georgia Tech to be a deep threat, but Herman clearly thinks Hill was never given a chance to flourish in that role in New York.

Herman may have a point there, but it’s also true that his main purpose here is to defend his client, who will now be shopping himself around to other teams. So he’s not exactly unbiased.

There’s little doubt that Hill will get a second chance to catch on somewhere. He’s big and strong and fast and could develop in the right system.

Some team out there will buy the argument that Hill didn’t get the right coaching in New York, and will try to make it work. Who will that team be?
