They got their season started on Saturday by hosting the William & Mary Tribe.
The Hokies, as they so often do, got off to a poor start in their early season matchup against what should be a cupcake. The Hokies scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Michael Brewer to Isaiah Ford but then gave up two field goals, allowing the Tribe to cut the lead to 7-6.
With the Tribe threatening to take the lead in the second quarter, Hokies’ linebacker Chase Williams delivered a huge hit to Tribe quarterback Steve Cluley, forcing a fumble, which was recovered by Derek linebacker Di Nardo. The Hokies then got another touchdown from Brewer, this time and eight-yard pass to Bucky Hodges, making it 14-6.
