On Saturday, every team in the NFL had to narrow their roster down to 53-men. That meant a lot of tough calls and players being cut. The New York Giants made a decision to keep Preston Parker on the roster, and Tom Coughlin specifically said it was because he has the ability to return punts and kicks.
Coughlin said that was critical because rookie wide receiver and first-round draft pick Odell Beckham was going to take on those duties. That implies that Beckham won’t be ready for the season opener and suggests that he won’t be available for a couple of weeks if the Giants kept someone on the roster specifically for return duties. Beckham has been battling a hamstring injury throughout training camp and the preseason.
Coughlin: “Preston also has the PR/KR ability. Right now that’s very critical for us, because Odell Beckham was going to be the PR.” #giants

The Giants held Beckham out of the preseason finale, and it appears as if Beckham is frustrated.
“I think he’s very frustrated,” Coughlin said.
