In the network’s new “This is SportsCenter” ad, New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham and New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz appear to be having a draft in an ESPN conference room. Joining them are a couple of assorted mascots, fans, coaches, and cheerleaders.
Except they aren’t doing a fantasy football draft. They are doing a fantasy ESPN anchor draft!
Instead of evaluating a players’ traits, they highlight the traits that make a good anchor. I wonder if they have to make the same tough decisions that we do?
Of course, a couple of SportsCenter anchors make an appearance in the 30 second piece.
It may not be up there with the ads that have shown Jerry Stackhouse unable to control his laughter at Trey Wingo’s name, or with Carmelo Anthony lending Scott Van Pelt a headband, but it shows that ESPN still comes up with funny spots that only us rabid sports fans would get!
So who would your fantasy SportsCenter team feature? Would you go with an old pro like Bob Ley, or would you go for one of the newer stars like Kevin Negandhi? You’re on the clock!
