This was Altuve’s second straight four hit game, and his fifth of the season, tying him for the major league lead. He had four four-hit games in his career before this season.
The 24 year old Altuve also leads the majors in hits with 193, and in batting average at .340. No one is really close to either mark.
Houston’s franchise record for hits in a season is 210 by Craig Biggio in 1998. Considering Altuve has 18 hits in his last ten games, he should break that record easily. Especially if he keeps moving up the list four at a time!
The young speedster also swiped his 50th base of the season, which leads the American League. If that wasn’t enough, he also hit his seventh home run of the season!
Altuve’s back-to-back four hit efforts was just the eighth time in franchise history that a player has recorded eight hits in four days. The last to achieve that feat was Lance Berkman in May of 2008.
He will try for his third straight four hit game tonight at Minute Maid Park in Houston against the Angels and Jered Weaver.
The last player to have three consecutive four hit games was Rafael Furcal in May of 2007. Milt Stock holds the major league record with four consecutive four hit games in 1925.
You’re half way to history, Jose!
