Michael Sams’ worth in jersey sales will probably pay for his practice squad weekly salary of $6,300. So while most practice squad players don’t get their jerseys sold, most practices squad players aren’t Michael Sam. In what universe wouldn’t Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones make the exception? They’ll put Michael Sam’s jersey on sale, according to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

And yet head coach Jason Garrett said it “only about football.”
Try as they may, Michael Sam’s presence won’t only be about football for a long time. They might as well grab the bull by the horns and make some money in the time being — at least, that’s probably what Jerry Jones is thinking. It may just be about football for Garrett, but Jones is all about the “glitz and the glamour.” And the two don’t cancel each other out. It’s called Jerry World for a reason.
Sam was the sixth highest selling jersey in the NFL back in July following the NFL Draft, when he was selected in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams. The impact on ticket sales may not have a large of a national impact but they could very well have a big impact in the Dallas market. It figures, however, that people who are supporting Sam as the first potential openly gay NFL players don’t need two Michael Sam jerseys. But who knows.
As Pro Football Talk points out, if he makes the 53-man roster, they can sell another one when he changes his jersey. The cash will be flowing.
