It’s fantastic news for Sam as many were hoping he’d land on his feet after being cut by the St. Louis Rams this weekend. He’s not quite on his feet yet but Sam is in a position to make an NFL roster and make history in doing so as the first openly gay player to make a 53-man roster.
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett spoke about the signing of Sam at his regularly scheduled press conference on Wednesday and treated the signing like any other practice squad signing the Cowboys make.

Garrett is treating the situation as he should — Michael Sam is a practice squad player. But the Cowboys are just pitiful on defense and the rash of injuries and the lack of talent the team has gone through opens up a door for Sam to possibly make the team and play this season.
