The San Francisco 49ers held wide receiver Michael Crabtree out of practice Wednesday because of a calf injury.
According to Matt Maiocco of Comcast Sports Net Bay Area, it is Crabtree’s second leg injury since the start of training camp. He was out of action for more than two weeks with a hamstring injury during training camp.

Crabtree missed 11 games last season after tearing his Achillies’ tendon during the 49ers’ offseason program. He came back to catch 19 passes for 284 yards and a touchdown in the five games he played.
He had 15 receptions for 203 yards in the playoffs, including eight for 125 in San Francisco’s Wild Card Playoff win at Green Bay.
But his 2013 playoffs are best remembered for the ball he didn’t catch, when Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman deflected a pass away from Crabtree in the end zone in the closing seconds of Seattle’s NFC Championship victory.
Crabtree was coming off a big 2012 season during which he caught 85 passes for 1,105 yards and nine touchdowns, all career highs.
Crabtree was the 10th overall pick by the 49ers out of Texas Tech in 2009. He was a two-time consensus All-American with the Red Raiders, leading the nation with 134 catches, 1,962 yards and 22 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2007.
