Going into Week 1, the Patriots know they will have a tough task defeating the revamped Dolphins squad at home, and therefore they are trying to get every advantage they possibly can.
This week the Patriots signed two recently cut Dolphins players, Don Jones and Marcus Thigpen, likely in hopes of learning some of the Dolphins schemes coming their way this Sunday.
#Patriots have added former Dolphins KR-PR-WR-RB Marcus Thigpen to their practice squad, per Barry Jackson. Pats picked up 2 former Fins.

Belichick continues to do Belichick things.

Belichick is notorious for doing whatever it takes to win in the NFL, and if that means picking up two former players from the team you are playing this weekend, that is exactly what he is willing to do.
In all likelihood, neither Jones or Thigpen will get any playing time with the Patriots whatsoever this season. Chances are that both will either stay on the practice squad, or Belichick and the Patriots will waive them in favor of other former players for the teams they are playing in the coming weeks.
