Seattle Seahawks

The champs are here.

We’ll begin with the negatives, and Seattle took a hit with regard to their defensive depth in the off-season. Red Bryant, Brandon Browner, Clinton McDonald, Chris Clemons and Walter Thurmond were all contributors at times last season, and each of them is gone. However, the “studs” are all returning, and with the addition of Kevin Williams on the defensive line to go with what is the best secondary on planet earth (hello, Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas), there is no reason to fret.

Offensively, Russell Wilson has been incredible in the preseason, and speculation has begun that he’ll have more freedom to fire away in year three. Still, the Seahawks do have Marshawn Lynch at their disposal, and he’ll be used heavily, even amid the temptation to feed the ball to Percy Harvin (healthy!) and company on the outside.

It is difficult to pick anyone for a repeat of 13 wins when the roster looks (marginally) worse, but if Harvin remains healthy, that is probably good for a win along the way, and the ceiling for Seattle remains a look at back-to-back titles. Forgive me for 12-4.

The Pick: 12-4
