Baylor QB Bryce Petty probably won’t play Saturday
By Dan Zinski
Bryce Petty proved his toughness by battling through a serious-sounding back injury last week, but it looks like the injury is going to force Baylor to shut Petty down this weekend as they take on Northwestern State.

The quarterback is not getting any practice reps Thursday according to John Werner of the Waco Tribune-Herald, and coach Art Briles indicated that it would take a “big turnaround” for Petty to play Saturday.
Briles said earlier in the week that Petty would have to be 100% in order to play, and Petty responded by promising he would be 100%.
But 100% is a lot to ask for considering the injury Petty suffered. According to reports, Petty battled through the first half of the SMU game despite cracking a pair of transverse processes in his back.
Playing with a broken back is the stuff of tough guy legend, but having Petty suit up again a week later would be pushing things and Art Briles knows that.
With Baylor taking on a relative cupcake opponent in Northwestern State, there’s no reason to risk having something bad happen to their potential Heisman Trophy quarterback.
You know Petty himself would love to get out there and pad his Heisman resume by putting up some sick numbers on a patsy team, but I’m sure someone has sat him down and explained why that would not be wise.
You broke your back dude, just let it go for one week. If a broken back isn’t a good excuse to take a week off, then what the hell is?
