The Boston Red Sox are playing the New York Yankees this week in a relatively insignificant installment of their long-standing rivalry. One of Derek Jeter‘s last showdowns with the Red Sox, sure. The Yankees on the fringe of the wild card race, yes. But these games still won’t move the needle like they would if both teams were truly relevant.

There was an entertaining moment in Thursday’s game between the Red Sox and Yankees, however, and it involved one of the most familiar figures in the rivalry in Boston designated hitter David Ortiz.

Bunting against the shift has been kind of a trend lately. In this case the man known as Big Papi took advantage of the trend, making the Yankees think for a minute by faking a bunt on one pitch. He cut it loose on the next pitch and delivered the home run.

The fake bunt likely did little to change Chris Capuano‘s approach against Ortiz, but it added a little flare to this home run.
