Derek Jeter always does everything right. Except on this play from Wednesday night when he got caught trying to be a little too tricky.

With runners on first-and-third against the Red Sox, the Yankees tried to steal a run by pulling the old trick where you get one runner caught in a rundown between first and second while the guy on third breaks for home.
Only problem, the Red Sox donāt fall for it.
In fact, the Red Sox totally destroy the Yankeesā plan and end up turning a wacky double play.

Jeter is actually the first runner caught when the fielder spies him edging toward the plate and fires across to get him. A quick throw back to second nails the runner trying to sneak in.
This is ā dare I say it? ā terrible execution by Jeter.
Youāve already messed up the double steal, so your job there if youāre Jeter is to get caught in the run down long enough for the other runner to at least make it to second.
Jeter just sort of surrenders there, and the Red Sox have a chance to nail the other runner who is probably gassed from being caught in the initial run down.
If youāre scoring at home, thatās a 2-6-3-4-5-3 double play. Routine.
