As usual, there were some great individual performances last weekend as college football season opened up for the 2014 campaign, but no one really came close to making the impact Georgia running back Todd Gurley did, and that has prompted an NFL legend to give him some very high praise.

More from College Football

In the big win over Clemson last Saturday, Gurley rushed for 198 yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns, and for good measure, he also added in a coast-to-coast kickoff return for a score.

It was one of the most dominating performances that we’ve seen in quite some time by a collegiate running back, and legendary NFL quarterback Fran Tarkenton was very impressed. He was so impressed that he believes Gurley has the ability to make an impact on the NFL much like one of the greatest running backs to ever suit up, Jim Brown.

“He could be the next Jim Brown,” Tarkenton told 680′s Chris Dimino, who immediately asked for clarification.

Oh, and Tarkenton did not slip up. He meant every word of that.

“Todd Gurley did something I’ve never seen a running back,” Tarktenton said. “I’ve never seen a running back dominate like he did.”

“I only go back and I played against a guy named Jim Brown, the greatest running back that ever lived, there’s no doubt about it … Todd Gurley can be the next Jim Brown,” Tarkenton said.

There really isn’t much higher praise you can receive than that. And the thing is, after what we saw last week, he deserves it, just as much as he may also deserve to break the running back drought in the first round in next year’s NFL Draft.
