That on-deck circle can be pretty treacherous. Makes you wonder why it’s even out there in the first place.

Oh dear.
Here’s an idea: if you need to delineate a place for the batter to stand when he’s on-deck, how about paint a big circle on the grass. Then you don’t have to worry about players losing their footing and sliding right into the camera well.
I know, revolutionary idea. Don’t have giant slippery plastic discs on a baseball field where people are running around.
Maybe I’m just weird, but I think the amount of crap cluttering up a sporting field should be minimized as much as possible. Especially when the clutter represents a hazard to players.
But no, go ahead, put a big round plastic mat on the ground that gets slippery as soon as it’s wet and sends multi-million-dollar ball players sprawling around like Keystone Kops. Yup. Brilliant.
