The future for Ray Allen is no doubt going to be fruitful but it just may not contain much basketball. The Miami Heat star guard has turned in a Hall of Fame career but it’s a career that may be ending before a 19th season in the league can start.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

Allen seems to be under no pressure to make a decision on his future but there are still many out there who very firmly believe the guard will be back at least one more time. Jessica Came Rato from Basketball Insiders opines that the decision for Ray Allen to return for a 19th season is entirely in his court, but it’s hard to see him not picking a contender who may be a sure thing to win a title.

"The ball is in Ray Allen’s court. If he wants to return for his 19th season, there will be suitors lined up making their pitches. The Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers and Washington Wizards are among the teams who reportedly have interest. Allen isn’t under any pressure to return at the start of the season. Contending teams are pursuing him for playoff runs, and it’s hard to imagine him walking away from the chase when he can still compete at a high level."

It’s very easy to say that Allen will be back because he loves the game, likes to win and has been conditioning his body for 18 years at the NBA level. But Allen isn’t in twenties anymore and while the start of the season may be great, it’s the late season grind that may wear Allen out and render him ineffective when teams would be needing him most.

He’ll very likely sign with a contender but doing so before the playoff roster deadline would be baffling.
