San Francisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys

The San Francisco 49ers open the season on the road against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. There are a lot of intriguing subplots to this season opener.

Is Tony Romo healthy and can he command the Cowboys offense? Is the Cowboys defensive line going to be an improvement on last season’s unit or not? Can the Cowboys secondary stop the Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers passing offense now that they’ve got a healthy Michael Crabtree?

Keys to Victory

Every team has a clean slate and a chance to establish and reveal their identity. For both teams there are question marks and it seems to be on the defensive side of the ball.

The Dallas Cowboys have a new defensive coordinator in Rod Marinelli and once again it is a unit that has been ravaged by injuries.  The Cowboys are without Anthony Spencer and DeMarcus Lawrence, George Selvie is questionable and defensive tackle Henry Melton is probable. Can the unit come together to stop the 49ers run game? The secondary is also still looking to live up to expectations and there is no shortage of weapons in the 49ers’ offense.

The San Francisco 49ers have had some turnover in their defense and they face a extremely talented offense with Romo under center, wide receiver Dez Bryant and tight end Jason Witten. The Dallas Cowboys have a much improved offensive line, one that could be the best in the NFL. They also have a 1,000 yard rusher in DeMarco Murray.

Prediction

This game will come down to which defense can slow down the which offense better. The Cowboys offense might be better than the 49ers at this point. On the flip side the Cowboys defense is worse for the wear than the 49ers.

San Francisco out guns Dallas.

Final Score: 49ers: 35, Cowboys: 30
