The regular season started in the National Football League last night for no one but the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks.  However, for the Arizona Cardinals, their regular season may be off to a bad foot before it even gets underway, quite literally.

More from Arizona Cardinals

Andre Ellington underwent an MRI yesterday on his foot.  After feeling discomfort in the left foot during practice, an MRI was deemed necessary.  Today, Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports in Phoenix is reporting the news doesn’t look to be good.

While Ellington was expected to be a lead back this year for the Cardinals, and play three downs, it doesn’t look like that will be the case from the get go.  A talented runner with an extremely fragile frame, Ellington once again has proven to not be able to keep himself healthy.

For the Cardinals, the situation looks equally bleak.  Behind Ellington is Jonathan Dwyer and Stepfan Taylor.  Taylor was a standout at Stanford and looked like an athletic runner for the Cardinal, but that has not shown up in the NFL.  Dwyer is a journeyman, most well-known for his time in Pittsburgh, and he leaves a lot to be desired from a starting back.

With a passing attack quarterbacked by Carson Palmer, and accentuated by wide receivers Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald, Ellington fit in perfectly.

At this point, the Cardinals are going to be hoping for the best time frame possible, and searching for answers as to how to fill the void left by Andre Ellington’s absence.
