Newton suffered a hairline rib fracture during Week 3 of the preseason, which kept him out of action in the final week of the season and limited his availability in practice this week.
In fact, Newton suited up for practice on Friday.
It was the first time that Newton practiced this week and it has resulted in the quarterback being listed as questionable on the official injury report for this weekend’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Should the injury keep Newton on the sideline, backup Derek Anderson would get the start.
For Newton, it will all come down to whether or not he can handle the pain. Even if he starts the game, he may be pulled before the final whistle if he struggles to deal with the hits.
