Washington Redskins defensive back DeAngelo Hall had some harsh words to describe his unit, calling them the “laughingstock” of the league. To add a different wrinkle, linebacker Brian Orakpo was within earshot and heard the comments.

From the Associated Press’ Joseph White:

"“We’ve been, I guess, the laughingstock of the league for a while on defense,” Hall said Thursday. “So it’s going to be nice to get out there with a new group of guys.”Standing at a nearby locker, linebacker Brian Orakpo overheard Hall’s words and said in his booming bass voice “Laughingstock?” and added an expletive.“Hey, Rak,” Hall called out to his teammate. “We ain’t been too good.”"

Hall isn’t exactly wrong and makes a valid point. The Redskins’ defense allowed a team to score 40 points in three different games and led the league in points allowed with 478. Hall also speaks from the vantage point of having been with the team for seven seasons.

Of course they have a clean slate in 2014 and can correct that if they’d like. They have new coaches and the more offensive minded head coach Jay Gruden has given defensive coordinator some free reign to be more aggressive with his scheme.
