ESPN analyst Mark Schlereth doesn’t think a whole lot of new Jets receiver Eric Decker, a fact the former Broncos lineman made clear in these remarks to ESPN radio quoted by the New York Post:
More from New York Jets
- Packers: Aaron Rodgers reached out to Jordan Love this offseason
- Jets training camp fights taking center stage for start of Rodgers era
- NFL rumors: Aaron Rodgers gives massive update on future with Jets
- Aaron Rodgers found a new friend to replace hole in his heart for Davante Adams
- NFL rumors: Aaron Rodgers’ 2024 retirement fate already has credible hint
"Decker in my mind was your fourth option in Denver and that’s the talent I think he has. I think he’s a marginal No. 2 at best. The worst cover guy you have on your defense is assigned to Eric Decker every week. New York will go crazy watching him be covered 1-on-1 and incomplete passes, throwing his arms up, begging for flags.I’m telling you New York, get ready, begging for flags like, ‘I was interfered with. That’s the only reason I didn’t catch that ball’ every play and then tripping over his own feet. Going for a big play and all of a sudden the turf monster gets him, bam, sniper, down. It will drive you crazy. It will absolutely drive you crazy."
Schlereth’s remarks were brought to Mr. Decker’s attention and he didn’t have a whole lot to say about them.
Eric Decker was told of Mark Schlereth's comments. He said he had no prior beef with him. Not sure where they came from. #Jets

Asked about Mark Schlereth's comments, Eric Decker said he'll let his play do the talking. Wasn't interested in a getting into war of words

After two brilliant seasons working with Peyton Manning in Denver, Decker went to the Jets this year on a 5-year/$36.2 million contract
Now he has Geno Smith throwing him the ball instead of Peyton Manning.
Will his production remain high enough in New York to warrant that healthy contract, or will the Jets ultimately regret making the deal?
Mark Schlereth is predicting a dire outcome for Decker and the Jets.
Decker made the right choice by taking the high road.
