The Florida State Seminoles will be without starting cornerback P.J. Williams for the defending champions second game of the year when they take on The Citadel on Saturday night as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

Williams aggravated his hamstring during the Noles narrow victory against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Week 1 and escaped the upset bid in part because of the fumble that Williams forced in the closing minutes on Cowboys quarterback J.W. Walsh.

Two plays after Williams forced a fumble on an upside down Walsh, Jameis Winston threw a 50-yard touchdown to Rashad Greene to extend the Florida State lead to 37-24 as they hung on to improve to 1-0, 37-31.

Williams sat our practice all week as he hopes to squash the hamstring injury now so it doesn’t linger throughout the season as hamstring injuries are known to do, but head coach Jimbo Fisher doesn’t seem too concerned this is a serious injury.

“His hamstring just has too much wear and tear from that last game so we’re going to have to sit him this week,” Fisher tells the Tallahassee Democrat. “He couldn’t play.”

In his absence, sophomore Marquez White is expected to take his spot in the starting lineup and senior cornerback Nick Waisome is expected to see extended action against the overmatched opponent.

In addition to Williams, the defensive MVP of last year’s BCS Championship Game, the Noles will be without reserve outside linebacker Matthew Thomas who is suspended, but do get back Chris Casher who is now academically eligible.
