Although the Florida State Seminoles have recruited at an elite level since Jimbo Fisher took over as head coach, they haven’t had as much success in the Tampa-area of Florida as much as they’d like. Although they have landed big time players like James Wilder, Jr., they have lost out on plenty of recruits from the area, including 5-Star wide receiver Deon Cain, who committed to the Clemson Tigers.

It now appears as though wide receivers coach and Tampa recruiter Lawrence Dawsey may be turning things around. Last month they landed a commitment from 4-Star Wharton High School wide receiver Auden Tate and on Friday, 4-Star wide receiver George Campbell, a former Michigan Wolverines’ commitment, announced his intention to sign with the Seminoles.
“This is a great opportunity and I am pretty much blessed to have all the schools that offered me,” Campbell said during his announcement ceremony broadcast on ESPN.com via Chris Nee of 24/7 Sports. “I am officially going to be going to Florida State University.”
The 6’3, 184-pound Campbell is from Tarpon Springs, Florida and attends East Lake High School. He took a visit to Tallahassee back in July and has been leaning the Seminoles’ way ever since.
“After doing my research and just sitting down with my family and my coaches,” Campbell said. “Just looking at the depth chart, but not only that, academics is a big factor, and I am not too far away from my family so it is all good.”
Campbell is ranked as the country’s seventh-best wide receiver prospect, the 10th-best overall prospect from the state of Florida and the 41st-best overall prospect in the class of 2015 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings. He also holds offers from the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers and the rival Florida Gators, among others.
The Seminoles now have the third-ranked class in the country and the top class in the ACC.
