The Houston Texans were able to complete a trade with the New England Patriots for quarterback Ryan Mallett, but he was apparently not the only signal-caller that the team had some interest in.

Lance Zierlein of Sports Talk 790 in Houston passed along the news.

Ultimately, the Texans likely preferred parting with a late-round pick for Mallett rather than the asking price for Barkley.

Philadelphia has been linked to a handful of trade rumors involving Barkley, but they have yet to move him. For now, he will take his spot on the bench behind starter Nick Foles when the 2014-15 regular season kicks off at home on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
