Donte Whitner

San Francisco 49ers to Cleveland Browns

One of the biggest acquisitions that the Cleveland Browns made this off-season was signing the Hitman, Donte Whitner. As one of the most ferocious hitters at the safety position in the NFL, Hitner is filling in the void that their former safety T.J. Ward left.

Coming from San Francisco, Whitner is bringing a winning attitude that cannot be taught. Leaving the 49ers might have been difficult, but it is well worth it because the Browns are rebuilding their secondary. Currently, the Browns have bolstered their cornerbacks by drafting Justin Gilbert and Pierre Desir, while retaining their superstar Joe Haden. Adding in Whitner is a great addition to a young secondary.

At 29, Whitner’s value is priceless. He has more experience than his younger counterparts. Whitner  is the elder statesmen of the group and is going to have to lead the defense by example.
