The Green Bay Packers lost 36-16 in the regular season opener to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night and in the process lost starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga to an MCL sprain and Eddie Lacy suffered a concussion in the loss.

More from Green Bay Packers

As disappointing as it was to lose the opener for the Packers, losing Bulaga and Lacy was even more unsettling for Green Bay. However, in a bit of a silver lining the knee injury to Bulaga was referred to as a sprain and not a complete tear of the MCL and “should not miss much time.”

The same encouragement applies in the case of Lacy who suffered a concussion despite wearing a concussion designed to protect against them, but he has cleared the first step of the league’s concussion protocol according to head coach Mike McCarthy who also said Lacy was feeling good.

With a few extra days built into the schedule as a result of playing on Thursday night, the Packers can give Lacy additional rest in the hopes that he can clear the remaining protocols to return to practice and the team’s Week 2 game next Sunday.

Lacy was the 2013 offensive rookie of the year last season after the second round pick out of Alabama rushed for 1,178 yards and 11 touchdowns in 15 games last year. He was knocked out of one game last year with a concussion and missed the game the following week.

Should Lacy be forced to miss any game action, James Starks would be the team’s starting running back next week against the New York Jets.
