Deoundrei Davis became the eighth player to leave the program since Strong took over for Mack Brown, although there are conflicting reports whether he left the program on his own accord or if he was dismissed for disciplinary reasons.
CBS Sports is reporting that Davis was not kicked off the team after he has battled injuries dating back to his senior year of high school, while there is a report circulating that Davis was dismissed for stealing.
The 6-3, 215-pound linebacker did not play in the opener against North Texas. He was a four-star member and the No. 10 outside linebacker recruit in the 2013 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Davis injured his knee in high school which paved the way for his being redshirted last year and injured his ACL in the spring.
He joins senior fullback Chet Moss and senior safety Leroy Scott who were dismissed in the spring, and senior running back Joe Bergeron, sophomore running back Jalen Overstreet, redshirt freshman safety Chevoski Collins, junior wide receiver Kendall Sanders, and redshirt freshman wide receiver Montrel Meander who were dismissed in July.
Most recently, Strong handed down suspensions to senior offensive tackle Desmond Harrison and junior offensive tackle Kennedy Estelle in a tumultuous past week for the Longhorns who lost senior center Dominic Espinosa to a broken ankle and starting quarterback David Ash suffered another concussion.
