They opened their season with a hard-fought 31-23 victory over the Northern Iowa Panthers.
They expected to face more stiff competition in week 2 when they play host to the Ball State Cardinals. The Cardinals have become one of the elite teams in the MAC under head coach Pete Lembo. Plus, the MAC has given the Big 10 and especially Iowa, a lot of trouble over the years and on Saturday, they are doing it once again.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Cardinals forced a fumble and defensive lineman Blake Dueitt scooped it up and returned it 35 yards for a Ball State touchdown to give them a 7-0 lead.
