Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Blake Bortles had an incredible preseason which led to many fans and analysts believing he deserved a crack at the starting job.

Ultimately, Jacksonville went with the veteran in Chad Henne.

The reasoning behind the move was to ensure Bortles is 100 percent ready to take the field when he finally steps under center for a regular season game, and head coach Gus Bradley believes the first-year pro will learn plenty of valuable lessons by watching Henne perform.

“With Chad, we’re looking at it and [saying], ‘Here’s a guy that has experience and, with another year in the system, is playing faster,’” Bradley told Albert Breer of the NFL Network. “We’ve got a guy that’s experienced and playing fast, and that’s what we want. Blake’s got inexperience, but he’s really progressing fast, and there are so many learning opportunities for him playing behind Chad.”

If Bortles can continue to improve, the Jaguars could finally have found their franchise quarterback.

Only time will tell.
