NCAA Football: My Top 25 after week 1

I fully intended to have this up earlier in the week, but so it goes. This is my top 25 after the first week, and don’t worry. I will give my reasons behind each selection.

More from College Football Odds

1. Florida State: I am a firm believer that someone deserves their slot until they prove they don’t. The Seminoles didn’t look good in the opener, but no one else looked good enough to take it from them either.

2. Auburn: Did they get lucky on the way to the National Championship game last year? Absolutely. Do they deserve to be moved out of this slot yet? Absolutely not!

3. Oregon: HUGE game against Sparty this week!

4. Oklahoma: The RB situation looks just fine, thank you.

5. Alabama: Hey, Oklahoma beat them in the Sugar Bowl. This is how the order stays for now.

6. Michigan State: Did they not prove on the field that they were better than the Buckeyes last year? So why do most people have them lower?

7. Georgia: They have the most impressive win against a good team so far this year. That has to count for something.

8. Texas A&M: Dominated a solid South Carolina team. Could be even higher without an argument from me.

9. Baylor: Bad news, Big 12. The Bears have a better defense than last year. They need Petty healthy before conference play to keep this slot.

10. Ohio State: The defense still looked solid. The offense needs some time to get in a rhythm. The bad news? They get Virginia Tech, who prides themselves on their defense, this week.

11. USC: Fresno is not as bad as the Trojans made them look.

12. Stanford: Couldn’t really tell much from the tomato can they played in week one….

13. Mississippi: Defense looked really good against Boise, and the offense is better than last year.

14. LSU: Do they win that game if Gordon was 100% in the second half? Doubtful.

15. Notre Dame: The year of exile didn’t diminish Golson one bit.

16. UCLA: Virginia’s defense made them look bad. Stanford’s defense is likely better than Virginia’s. You do the math.

17. Nebraska: Who needs a QB when you have five running backs?

18. Arizona State: Could be a thorn in the side of the Pac 12 south.

19. Wisconsin: With Stave out, they have no plan B if McEvoy struggles again.

20. Louisville: That defensive line was dominant on Monday. If their offense catches up, look out!

21: Clemson: Still a solid team, but they need someone to step up on offense.

22. Kansas State: Could contend for a Big 12 title if their defense holds up.

23. North Dakota State: Give me one good reason that they don’t belong here.

24. East Carolina: This team returns practically the same team that walloped North Carolina at home last year, and finished the season 10-3.

25. Oklahoma State: Either reports of the Cowboys’ demise have been greatly exaggerated, or Florida State is really overrated.  Let’s split the difference and say that OSU belongs here for now.

Honorable mention:

Washington, Temple, Bethune-Cookman, Missouri, Texas
