For the second time in five days, wide receiver Phil Bates is a former member of the Seattle Seahawks.
Bates was waived on Monday, re-signed on Wednesday and waived again Saturday.
Bates was inactive for the Seahawks’ season-opening win over the Green Bay Packers on Thursday and was one of eight wide receivers on the roster.

He was re-signed Wednesday when center Lemuel Jeanpierre was placed on injured reserve. The Seahawks did not sign another player to fill Bates’ roster spot yet, so they are currently at 52 players.
But they have a plethora of wide receivers in any event—Percy Harvin, Doug Baldwin, Ricardo Lockette, Jermaine Kearse, Kevin Norwood, Bryan Walters and Paul Richardson remain on the roster.
This is the third season the 24-year-old Bates has been on Seattle’s roster, but he has yet to make an appearance in a regular-season game.
Bates began his college career as a quarterback and wide receiver at Iowa State before transferring to Ohio in 2009. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by Seattle in 2012.
Bates threw for 137 yards, rushed for 150 and caught five passes for 73 yards in two years at Iowa State. In two seasons for Ohio, Bates threw for 320 yards, ran for 588 and caught passes for 197.
