Los Angeles Angels’ slugger Albert Pujols added another accomplishment to his career resume on Saturday night. What had to make this moment even more satisfying for Pujols is that this milestone plated the winning run in a key game in the middle of a playoff race.

More from Los Angeles Angels

In the ninth inning of his team’s game against the Minnesota Twins, Pujols came up to bat with the score tied 5-5 and two runners on. He laced a pitch that was down and in past the third base bag and into the corner for a double, driving in two runs and adding to his Hall of Fame resume. The Angels held on for a 7-5 victory.

Here is what Pujols had to say about the hit after the game, courtesy of MLB.com:

"“I thought about it when I came to bat. I was like, ‘Man, it’d be nice to get it here.’ It’s pretty special that I was able to help the team win. To me, at the end of the day, that’s what’s important. That’s why I play the game. Hopefully, at the end of my career, I can appreciate it more. But it’s hard for me to get caught up in numbers now.”"

In what has finally been a successful season for this iteration of the Angels, the numbers have certainly been there for Pujols: .274/.330/.467 with 25 home runs and 87 RBI.
