After he had a chance to win the Deutsche Bank Championship last week, Billy Horschel redeemed himself with a two-shot 14-under par victory Sunday at the BMW Championship, the third of four PGA Tour playoff events. Horschel beat out Bubba Watson (-12) Morgan Hoffmann (-11) as well as Ryan Palmer, Sergio Garcia Rickie Fowler and Jim Furyk at -9 .

This is Horschel’s second career victory. He broke out in 2013 including a victory at the Zurich Classic, but had only a pair of top 10s entering the FedEx Cup playoffs. After this victory, Horschel moved to No. 1 in points (the top 5 at East Lake control their own destiny) heading into the Tour Championship.

Morgan Hoffmann had a ridiculous weekend where he shot a 62 on Saturday and a 63 on Sunday. His two-round score of 125 was the lowest on the PGA Tour this season. That was more than enough to punch his ticket to the Tour Championship – an incredible feat, given that he started the playoffs at No. 124 in points.

Rory McIlroy once again four putted the par-3 12th hole in laughable fashion, but still managed to shoot 66 and record another top-10 finish.

Ryan Palmer showed the best chance to challenge Horschel until he double bogeyed the 13th hole and then dropped five shots in his last seven holes.

Horschel talked of last week’s chunk on the 18th and this week’s victory after his win Sunday.

“After last week a lot of people on Twitter wanted to call me a choker,” Horschel said after he won. “I didn’t choke; I just made a bad swing at the wrong time. You don’t choke coming from behind. To lead this thing, to hold on, it means a lot.”

The top 30 in the FedEx Cup point standings move on to the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta, GA next week. Chris Kirk leads the standings followed by Horschel, Watson, McIllroy and Hunter Mahan.
