Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts was hit as much as any quarterback in the NFL last season. The Denver Broncos entered the 2014 season looking to improve their pass rush, specifically with the high-profile signing of DeMarcus Ware as a free agent.

More from Denver Broncos

Those two facts have come crashing into one another during the opening game between these teams on Sunday Night Football.

Thanks to the work of their skilled pass rushers and some blitzes dialed up by defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, the Broncos put serious pressure on Luck in the first half of this game. Those pressures and sacks combined with an interception from Broncos’ safety Rahim Moore helped propel Denver to 24-7 lead at halftime.

Here is one example, with middle linebacker Nate Irving flying through unblocked for a big hit on Luck.

Then it was Ware and Malik Jackson combining for another sack on Luck.

If the Broncos are able to rush the passer this way over the course of the 2014 season, they will be serious Super Bowl contenders once again.
