Former Oregon TE Colt Lyerla, whose first NFL season came to a premature end when he tore up his knee in Packers camp, has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Per the Oregonian, Lyerla was busted in Washington County at 2 AM Saturday morning and booked. The former Ducks star was reportedly high on either illegal or prescription drugs at the time of his arrest.
Lyerla was arrested for cocaine possession in 2013, a situation that helped him fall entirely out of the NFL draft in 2014 despite high-end talent.
The Green Bay Packers picked up Lyerla as a UDFA and he seemed to be making progress toward winning a roster spot when he tore both the MCL and ACL in his left knee. He was given an injury settlement and waived by the Packers.
Lyerla also made headlines recently by revealing that he chose to attend Oregon University because a booster promised him gifts including a house and a car.
The guy is a real piece of work, is what we’re getting at.
Given everything stacked against Lyerla now, his physical status plus his ongoing legal issues, I should say the chances of his ever resurfacing in the NFL are pretty remote.
His one real shot was this year with the Packers, pretty much an ideal environment for a young man trying to turn things around for himself, but the injury ended that.
I don’t know if Lyerla’s new problems are related to his getting hurt and being cut but it seems likely. His great talent seems destined to be wasted.
