With Sam Bradford out for the season with an ACL injury and Shaun Hill sitting because of a calf injury, undrafted quarterback Austin Davis has been given the keys to the offense and defensive back Harrison Smith wasted no time to take advantage of the rookie, returning an interception for a 76-yard touchdown to widen their lead.
Harrison Smith has a knack for returning touchdowns. In his third year, this interception makes for Smith’s third defensive touchdown of his career, the first two coming his rookie year in 2012.
It’s going to be a long year for the St. Louis Rams. As good as the defense is, they won’t be able to carry enough of a load where an inexperienced offense–rather quarterbacked by hill or Davis–can inch through games without pressuring other teams to score points.
One thing is for certain: if Hill is unable to go next week, the Rams will look elsewhere for a quarterback to lead the team in Week 2.
With Smith’s interception return the final score of the game for Minnesota, the Vikings kick off their season 1-0 after a 34-6 victory over the St. Louis Rams.
