Harrison was not in the Pirates’ lineup for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. But that doesn’t mean Pedro Alvarez is at third base—rather, Brent Morel got the start.
Harrison made the All-Star Game this season as a utility man, but has primarily been playing third base since the Pirates benched Alvarez for his fielding incompetence.
Harrison leads the National League with a .315 batting average, while slashing a .315/.348/.513 line in 124 games. He has 66 runs, 33 doubles, seven triples, 13 homers and 48 RBI to go with 17 stolen bases.
Harrison is in the top 10 in the NL in Wins Above Replacement, slugging percentage, OPS, doubles and triples.
The 27-year-old was a sixth-round pick by the Cubs in 2008 and came to the Pirates in a non-waiver trade deadline deal in 2009 along with pitchers Jose Ascanio and Kevin Hart in exchange for pitchers Tom Gorzelanny and John Grabow.
Morel is 3-for-26 in 16 games this season with a double and three RBI. He was claimed off waivers twice last offseason, first by the Toronto Blue Jays from the Chicago White Sox in December and then by the Pirates from Toronto in February.
