Boston Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo has reportedly asked the Celtics to trade him, but they do not appear to be in any hurry to do so.

Jabari Davis of Basketball Insiders believes the Celtics will move Rondo before the trade deadline.

"Although I’m sure most would prefer to see it take place before the season, unlike with some of the other folks potentially on the move, they don’t have to deal with any of the issues that come with restricted free agency. They could just as easily bring him into camp and even into the season before finding the exact deal they’ll be looking for. I do think they end up moving him at some point before the deadline in February. I don’t see Ainge simply letting his deal run out without getting an asset or two in return."

The Celtics have collected assets and young talent but it wasn’t enough to really even get the Minnesota Timberwolves to consider trading star power forward Kevin Love there. The Celtics may be better off simply continuing to build around that young talent.

Last season, Rondo averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line. Rondo was originally selected by the Celtics with the 21st-overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. In his eight-year career, he has averaged 11.1 points, 8.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 47.5% from the floor, 25.2% from three and 62.1% from the free throw line.
