All of the hype, buzz, conversation, and memes about Wes Welker‘s four-game suspension have centered around his reported use of Molly. While that drug might be the more entertaining topic to kick around on social media, it turns out that it was not the cause of Welker’s suspension.

Jason La Canfora has a report on Sunday morning that Welker’s suspension was actually the result of his use of Adderall and not Molly.
"Denver Broncos receiver Wes Welker’s four-game amphetamine suspension was triggered by his use of Adderall during the Kentucky Derby, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, and not Molly.Welker was clearly partying at the race, and used the drug at that point (it is used to help individuals stay up or stay focused and it’s common among college students pulling all-nighters before exams, for instance), which ended up triggering his positive test."
The Denver Broncos’ slot receiver was adamant in his own defense after the suspension was issued. In particular he was quick to respond to the reports about his use of Molly, saying that he wouldn’t even know where to get “a Molly” or what “a Molly” is.
Whether or not Welker was truly out of the know on that issue or if he was carrying out calculated efforts to play dumb on the use of Molly, that would all be rendered moot by this report.
Welker’s suspension, as well as the suspension of Josh Gordon and others, might be reduced or wiped out if the NFL passes a new drug policy in the coming days or weeks. But for now, we have some clarification on exactly why Welker was suspended in the first place.
