The Denver Broncos charged out to a big lead Sunday night against the Indianapolis Colts thanks to a hot start from their offense. In the first half of this one they were up 24-0 and looked like they were on their way to a blowout victory.

Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts mounted a dramatic comeback, however, with big plays from tight end Dwayne Allen and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. Before the Broncos knew what had hit them, they were only up by a score of 31-24 and had to hold off a potential game-tying drive in the final minutes.

At that point the Broncos needed somebody on their revamped defense to come through with a big play. Of all of the new talent on that side of the football, it was rookie cornerback Bradley Roby who broke up a pass attempt on fourth down to seal the Broncos’ victory in week 1 of the 2014 season.

The Broncos learned that they still have plenty of work to do on the defensive side of things, but it had to be a welcome sight to leave the game in that unit’s hands and come away with the victory.
