On Monday, a report surfaced that former Detroit Pistons’ forward Charlie Villanueva was attempting to return to the NBA and was mulling offers from both the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers.

More from Dallas Mavericks

Villanueva signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the Detroit Pistons back in 2009 and his career has gone downhill since.

This season, he couldn’t even get on the court. He appeared in just 20 games last, playing 9.0 minutes per game. Villanueva averaged 4.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game while shooting 38.0% from the field, 25.0% from beyond the arc and 57.1% from the free throw line

However, he still is wanted by both the Clippers and the Mavericks and according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas, he has decided on the Mavericks.

If he does make the team, it will have to be for a minimum amount because the Mavericks spent big this summer, trading for Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton, signing Chandler Parsons and Jameer Nelson and re-signing both Dirk Nowitzki and Devin Harris.

In his nine-year NBA career, he’s played for the Pistons, Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks and has averaged 11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 44.0% from the floor, 34.3% from three and 77.5% from the charity stripe. The former Connecticut Huskies’ star was selected by the Raptors with the seventh-overall pick in the first round of the 2005 NBA Draft.
