In theory, the Chicago Bears should have a prolific offense this season. What they lack on the defensive side of the ball they should be able to make up for by outscoring their opponents.

More from Chicago Bears

That did not go to plan against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. In a game that eventually ended up in a 23-20 Bills’ victory in overtime, it reached that point thanks in large part to the fact that the Chicago offense underachieved over the course of the game.

As if a poor performance were not enough, the Bears saw one of their key offensive linemen sustain an injury in that game: center Roberto Garza sustained a high ankle sprain in the team’s opening affair.

Per Brad Biggs:

Part of the reason that the Bears found success on offense under Marc Trestman in 2013 was the drastic improvement of their offensive line. If they are going to come close to repeating that production this season, they will need solid line play. In the next couple weeks, they might be seeking that line play without Garza. Brian Da La Puente is the backup center in Chicago.

The Bears will try to bounce back from their week 1 loss when they face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night in week 2.
