The Green Bay Packers lost in a miserable opening game to the Seattle Seahawks, but Packers’ star linebacker Clay Matthews left the game with a positive attitude. He’s got a newfound confidence — in his thumb.

“That is one thing where I can put a little smile on knowing I got a little personal victory [Thursday] in regards to going out and doing everything I wanted to do with no setbacks,” Matthews said, via ESPN.com. “I think that was huge for my psyche. I’m happy about that.”
Matthews has struggled with his pesky thumb, as he broke it two times last season (week 5 and week 16). He used casts of all shapes and sizes last season, but it was only taped for the Packers’ regular season opener.
Matthews is two-thumbs-up good. His defense, however, was not. Marshawn Lynch rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Russell Wilson threw two touchdowns. It was a opportunity for the Seahawks to reestablish themselves as the NFL’s best team. And they did it against the Packers. That’s never a good thing for Green Bay.
Via ESPN.com and ProFootballFocus.com, Matthews stats vs. Seattle were as follows:
"Matthews would have shared a sack with Peppers near the end of the second quarter, but it was wiped out by a penalty. He was credited with three quarterback hurries in 28 rushes, according to ProFootballFocus.com. He dropped into coverage seven times and allowed two receptions for 22 yards. The rest of the time he played in run support. He was credited with four tackles."
